Amazon Row
The team (Darren, Matt, Simon & Josh ) set out to row the full navigable length of the Amazon River, launching from Iquitos, Peru, with the goal of reaching Belém, Brazil. Four team members shared a single small boat, rowing in pairs for 24 hours a day on a rigorous two hours on, two hours off rotation.
Over the course of three relentless weeks, they covered 4,500 kilometres, facing the unpredictable realities of the world’s mightiest river. The journey demanded constant vigilance and stamina, with two men rowing while two rested, day and night, never breaking the rhythm. As the expedition pressed deeper into the Amazon, the team faced extreme high winds and the onset of the rainy season, which arrived a month earlier than expected. The rising waters and fierce weather ultimately forced the team to end their journey at Santarém. However, the team raised the vital funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital’s cancer centre.
